Makery Coworking Welcomes Its First Co-Op Retailer Member, Twin Star Herbal Education

Makery Coworking is excited to announce the addition of Twin Star Herbal Education as its newest company member. Beginning Saturday, January 25th, Twin Star will operate a retail “Pop Up” store on Makery Coworking’s main floor and offer a variety of its herbal products, flower essences, specialty books and more.

For Twin Star, the move into Makery Coworking is the result of a bigger relocation initiative. “We loved our home at 57 Bank Street, but we were starting to outgrow the space,” said Lupo Passero, founder of Twin Star. “We are moving most of our operations into the annex building that is part of The Green Spot property located at 354 Litchfield Road (Rt. 202). The setting is perfect for us as it has a commercial kitchen, plenty of space for our retail items, and is located along the beautiful shores of the East Aspectuck River.”

While planning Twin Star’s move, Passero realized that she did not want to give up her footprint on Bank Street completely. “Collaborating with Makery Coworking is a great solution for us, because we can keep a retail presence downtown, which is important for our customers who are accustomed to shopping downtown as well as those who travel long distances to shop with us,” said Passero.

Makery Coworking Founder, Tony Vengrove is excited to explore collaborative possibilities that Twin Star brings to the table. “Lupo and I both share many years of experience in herbal supplement and plant-based industries,” said Vengrove. “We plan to explore incubator and accelerator-type of programs for wellness and/or plant-based businesses that can help them sprout and grow.”

“Over the past several years, it’s been exciting to see a ‘wellness hub’ grow in downtown New Milford,” continued Vengrove. “In addition to Twin Star, downtown New Milford is home to Natural Marketplace, Placeres Naturopathic & Acupuncture, several yoga instructors and studios, massage therapists, and spas—all of which help attract people to come spend time in our bucolic downtown.” Vengrove believes this collection of businesses is an important cluster to support and nurture from an economic development perspective.

As Makery Coworking nears its three-year anniversary, the award-winning space continues to explore innovative opportunities to expand its offerings and services for local entrepreneurs. “I have always wanted to make better use of the beautiful showcase shelving units in the space,” said Vengrove. “They are perfect for startup businesses to test new products in a retail environment. Twins Star will help us understand how we can integrate some retail activity into the space without disrupting the coworking culture that our members enjoy and expect.”

The makeup of Makery Coworking’s membership is also a big benefit for local entrepreneurs who need strategic advice and marketing assistance. The space is used by a diverse group of talented professionals who provide design services, web development, photography & video, strategy and business development, coaching and more. This built-in "agency" makes it convenient to network and collaborate with quality service providers.

Exploring retail opportunities within Makery Coworking is a natural extension of its popular Pop Up Shoppery program, which showcases local, artisan vendors on a monthly basis. “Our Pop Up Shoppery events enable small businesses to have a ‘brick-and-mortar’ location once a month to help drive their sales and brand awareness,” said Vengrove.

The official launch of Twin Star’s Makery Coworking location (20 Bank Street) is Saturday, January 25nd from 10:00am to 6:00pm. A full day of free events and classes are planned including: Intro to Herbalism Slideshow with Lupo Passero (2:00pm), Crafting Your Own Wellness Teas (4:00pm), and an Opening Ceremony followed by Botanical Cocktail Hour at 5:00pm. Free samples of Twin Star’s favorite products will be offered throughout the day.
